In anticipation of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day this year, make some eco-friendly changes to your daily life with these easy tips (If you have some of your tips, do share!).

Don’t pour FOG down your kitchen sink . FOG (Fats, Oils, Grease) from cooking don’t belong in your kitchen sink because of the problems it causes by blocking sewer pipes. When the sewer pipes are blocked, it causes sewage to overflow, which harms the environment. To prevent this, pour FOG into sealed cans instead and throw it in the trash. Excess grease from pots and pans should be wiped off with a paper towel.

Reusable shopping totes. These totes were previously frowned upon because they were ugly and uncool to carry around. But now retail stores and major department stores are making their own reusable totes that are too fabulous to ignore. When you go shopping with these fab bags, big name supermarkets even give you cash back for each shopping bag you reuse or recycle.

Love free stuff? Then throw a party! I threw an eco-swap party not too long ago where I requested that guests bring unwanted items to my party to swap, which were in good and excellent condition. The most swapped items were books, accessories, photo frames and albums and kitchen ware. We had tried to get rid of our items using a show and tell format. I stood there like a promoter explaining the history of my item and the numerous ways the item could be used.  At the end of the party,  unswapped items were donated to  a Salvation Army drop off center.
